Scholarship Applications Do’s & Don’ts

 

Do’s

 

  • Do turn in applications due April 1 to the Guidance Office by March 28 (our office will be closed during Spring Break March 29-April 2)
  • Do make sure you have the current year’s application as they change from year to year
  • Do complete the scholarship application yourself, not your parent
  • Go through scholarship list and highlight the scholarships for which you qualify
  • Pull applications
  • Note deadlines (put on calendar or in your phone as a reminder)
  • Compile Resume
  • Ask for letters of recommendations EARLY.  Do not have scholarship listed in recommendation letter so you can use for other scholarships.
  • Fill out application in ink
  • Always check front and back side of application
  • Pay attention to details
  • Once application is complete turn in to the guidance office before the deadline.  On most scholarships our office has to supply information which is time consuming.  If we have extra time we can double check and make sure you have everything that is needed.
  • If you are fortunate to receive a scholarship always send a Thank You note!  If you don’t know where to send the note please ask Mrs. Pazdera or Mrs. Schannuth for assistance.

 

Don’ts

  • Don’t have a parent fill out your scholarship application
  • Don’t use pencil or pencil and ink on your application
  • Don’t turn in folded, crumbled or stained applications
  • Don’t fill in information that states counselor will provide (rank, scores, etc.)
  • Don’t wait to the day of deadline to have the guidance office provide a statement or transcript
  • Don’t supply senior picture unless requested
  • Don’t hesitate to ask questions if you don’t understand something

Julie Heberle Scholarship – Not Available for 2017-18 Awards $500 to a graduating senior with a minimum GPA of 3.0, and pursuing post-secondary education at a technical, trade, or two-year college.

Brenda Liesemeyer Memorial Scholarship –A $250 scholarship is awarded to a senior girl who shares common interest.

Robert H. & Norma L. Lloyd Scholarship – Awards $500 to one graduating senior from Hermann High School who plans to enter a career in the health care field. The scholarship is not renewable.

National Honor Society Scholarship - Awarded to an outstanding senior member of the National Honor Society.

Eunice M. Puchta Scholarship – Awarded to a senior girl who has been active in Girl Scouting in the Girl Scout Council of the Missouri Heartland-Gasconade Co. R-1 School District.

Randolph E. Puchta Scholarship – Awards $500 to a senior who will pursue a post-secondary education in history. Attach a written statement with your reason for selecting history as a college major.

Jody Stiers-Herbst Memorial Scholarship – Awarded to a senior who demonstrates leadership, citizenship, academic promise, financial need, and has participated in athletics. Please attach your senior picture, along with a short essay of why you are deserving of this scholarship.

Ralph & Nan Sellenschutter Scholarship-Awards two $500 scholarships to students majoring in education at a two or four year college/university.

Robert Theissen Memorial Scholarship-Not Available for 2017-18-One $250 scholarship is awarded to a senior who demonstrates financial need, has a 2.5 GPA and is active in athletics. Deadline *04-01-18

Tony and Rita Weber Scholarship-Two $500 scholarships to be awarded to senior graduates majoring in nursing or the healthcare field who demonstrate leadership, community involvement and academic promise. All healthcare majors are welcome to apply, but preference will be given to those students planning on a major in nursing. Deadline *04-01-18

Gasconade County Teacher’s Association Scholarship – A $300 scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who has been accepted at an accredited school or college, plans to enter the field of education, demonstrates financial need and ranks in the upper 25% of the graduating class.

Hermann High School Alumni Scholarship – Awarded to a graduating senior who has attended H.H.S. all four years and maintained a minimum GPA of 2.50 and demonstrates financial need. Three $1,000 scholarships are available.

Missouri Past National President’s Scholarship – Department of Missouri Ladies Auxiliary – Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States - Awards two scholarships to high school seniors who are the daughter, son, granddaughter, grandson, great-granddaughter and great-grandson of a current or deceased member of the Department of Missouri Ladies Auxiliary/VFW, upon verification of eligibility. Do not mail application. Applications are due in the Guidance Office. Sandra Hingst, VFW representative, will pick up applications on 4/1/18. Sandra will get the Auxiliary President signature that is required on the application at the local meeting.

Edna Bahr Vocational Scholarship-This scholarship is for a well-rounded student with a history of strong work ethic; not necessarily the most popular, athletic, academic or financially needy student. This scholarship is available to students furthering their education/training at a community college, technical school or other certificate program (that is not a four year college/university).

Mutual Insurance Companies Scholarship Program – Eight $1,000 scholarships (1 in each of the eight MAMIC districts) will be awarded to high school seniors with plans to continue their education in accredited colleges or universities within the state of Missouri. Gasconade County R-1 Alumni Association Scholarships-Three scholarships are offered.

1. Four Year Scholarship-Available to students attending a 4-year college/university, working toward a Bachelor Degree and are not using A+ program benefits. Requirements are a GPA of 2.5 or higher, an attendance record of 90%, good citizenship and student must have been enrolled in Hermann High School their JR & SR years.

2. Vocational or Technical Scholarship-Available to students furthering their education/training at a community college, technical school or other certificate program that is not a 4-year college/university and are not using A+ program benefits. Requirements are financial need, a 2.0 GPA or higher, an attendance record of 90%, good citizenship and student must have been enrolled in Hermann High School for their JR & SR years.

3. Two year A+ Scholarship-After completing two years at an A+ school, the student must contact the Guidance Office and submit a letter to the Alumni Scholarship Committee applying for the 2 year scholarship to complete years 3 & 4.

Gasconade County Fair Association Scholarship –The fair association will be offering up to $1,000 in scholarships for each end of the county to graduating senior(s) who plan to attend college or Vo-Tech school. Student shall be a Gasconade County resident for a minimum of two years and has participated in the Gasconade County Fair prior to their senior year.

Gaertner-Roetheli Scholarship – This scholarship will be awarded to applicants planning to attend any accredited university, college or technical school, and is based on potential for academic success, good citizenship and character, leadership qualities, and positive work ethic. All applicants with a strong educational plan will be considered, but preference will be given to students pursuing a career in agriculture, education or foreign languages. Pay attention to details on application. Essay looked upon heavily. Range of scholarship is $3,000-10,000.

Erik R. Heldt Scholarship - $2000 will be awarded to an applicant who has participated in a sport 2 of the 4 years. Also based on participation and leadership in school, church and community activities, financial need, and academic progress. Student must be planning to attend college as a full-time student. Please go to www.cfozarks.org; click on Scholarships in the upper right hand corner and select apply for a scholarship, which will take you to the CFO Scholarships page, follow instructions and hit the “apply here” button which will take you to the online scholarship portal logon page. Students will have to create a username and password to establish an account. Next, you will be prompted to answer a couple of eligibility questions, which will determine the scholarships you are eligible to apply for. Marilyn Kraettli Clifton Scholarship-This scholarship is available to students attending a 4-year college/university and working toward a Bachelor Degree and is not using A+ program benefits. Requirements are as follows: Financial need, GPA of 2.5 -3.8, attendance record of 90%, ACT scores, Class Rank, Good Citizenship and enrolled in Hermann High School their entire Junior and Senior years. Scholarship will be paid $500 each semester for 8 semesters for a total of $4,000. Scholarship is renewable provided college student provides full-time enrollment and a 2.5 GPA from previous semester.

Richard Scott Haymes Detachment #1391 Scholarship Fund-This scholarship is given to qualified applicants who are pursuing full time undergraduate or technical training at a full time recognized institution. Eligibility: 3.0 GPA, Spouse, Children, Siblings, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, and Step Children of an active duty, reserve duty or honorable discharged veteran of the United States Marine Corps, US Navy FMF Corpsman, or US Navy FMF Chaplain. Or a member of the Marine Corps League or Marine Corps League Women’s Auxiliary.

Women in Nuclear-The Callaway Energy Center’s Women In Nuclear (WIN) Chapter is offering a $1,000 scholarship to high school seniors toward post-secondary education pursuits in power-related fields for the academic year 2018-19. This would include students pursuing careers in electrical, gas or nuclear power generation including engineering programs in electrical, mechanical, civil, nuclear, computer science, or administrative assistant programs or programs in business or technical schools. Franklin County Cattlemen’s Association-CHECK BACK NOT CONFIRMED AS OF 1/31/18 -Applicant must apply during their senior year in high school, have a beef project and/or be involved in beef promotion activities. Applicant and/or applicant’s parents or grandparents must be residents of Franklin County, current members of the Missouri Cattlemen’s Assoc. and/or actively participating in Franklin County Cattlemen’s assoc. activities and promotion for two years prior to the application deadline.

Peoples Savings Bank Scholarship Program-Five $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to seniors attending a high school, Public or Private in the Cities of Hermann, Montgomery City, New Haven, New Melle/ Francis Howell, Wentzville Liberty/ Fort Zumwalt West. Children of bank employees are eligible to apply. Seeking graduating seniors with a record of volunteerism in the community in non-school sponsored activities and participation in extracurricular school activities. Hilkemeyer Scholarship- This $2,000 scholarship is available to high school seniors whose parents or guardians are members of Three Rivers Electric Cooperative. Students applying for this scholarship must be attending a public, private or junior college within the State of Missouri. Applications must be submitted with copies of high school transcripts, ACT results, three letters of recommendation, and a statement from the student explaining why he/she is deserving of the scholarship. Applications are available in the guidance office or you can download a copy at www.threeriverselectric.com.

Community Foundation of the Ozarks-Scholarships available February 1st to ALL students in SW MO-providing they meet the criteria. Hermann Music Booster Scholarship-This is a scholarship of $500 given to a graduating senior from Hermann High School. The applicant must have been active in at least one of the Music departments at Hermann High School and demonstrated academic commitment. Applicant must be accepted to an accredited 2 or 4 year music program at a college or university pursuing a major in music.

Cathy Lloyd Scholarship-A $1,000 scholarship awarded to a student that meets the following criteria: ACT Score of 28, 3.3 GPA, submit the FAFSA, participated in community service and extracurricular activities, one letter of recommendation and an essay with the theme of “Why I am proud/not proud of my country.” This scholarship is renewable if meet GPA and Full-time enrollment requirements. Callaway-Montgomery Cattlemen’s Association-Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded in each county. Applicant must have a 2.5 GPA and must be a paid active member of the Missouri Junior Cattlemen’s or Missouri Cattlemen’s Association and have designated the Callaway-Montgomery Cattlemen’s Association as their local organization. Preference may be given to students enrolled in an AG related field.

Anna Mae Rademacher ART Scholarship-A $250 scholarship is awarded to a student pursuing a field of study that relates to the Arts. Applicant must have no safe school discipline violations during their school career and be a resident of either Gasconade Co R1 or R2 school districts throughout their Jr. and Sr. years.

United Country Land and Lake Properties Scholarship-A $1,000 scholarship is available to graduating seniors of Hermann High School who have a 3.0 GPA, currently involved in FFA and plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in the field of agriculture at a college or university.
