The Summer Talent Academy for Professions in Health (STAPH) targets students completing the 10th and 11th grade who are bright and enthusiastic young learners. The session is hosted on Truman State University campus during June 17-24. Students who currently have a 3.25 cumulative GPA and a 3.5 GPA in basic science courses are eligible for nomination. Nomination is due 11/13/17. Application is due January 29, 2018. STAPH aims to educate students about careers in healthcare and to provide a jump-start to a future in medicine, nursing, psychology/psychiatry, and allied health professions. Student select from a broad range of stimulating introductory courses in the humanities, math, sciences, and social sciences. MU School of Medicine High School Mini Medical School-This program is geared toward current high school juniors interested in careers in medicine. It is a one-week experience designed to give students a preview of medical school. Leadership in Practice-This program was developed to develop and instill critical leadership, entrepreneurship and life skills to current 9th and 10th graders. See Mrs. Pazdera for nomination. The program will be held at Westminster College from June 24-27, 2018. The cost of $250 covers application fee, housing, meals and materials.

Missouri Leadership Seminar-The Missouri Leadership Seminar will take place June 8-10 at the University of Central Missouri. The mission is to empower young adults to expand their minds and be truer to themselves so they can develop into leaders who change lives and make a positive difference in their local communities and the world. Mizzou MedPrep: Medical Explorations Workshop-The University of Missouri School of Medicine would like to extend an invitation to current sophomores and juniors to participate. The workshop is a 2-week online course and one-day campus visit to either the MU’s School of Medicine (Columbia MO) or the Springfield Clinical Campus (Springfield MO). The students will explore careers in healthcare, enhance self-awareness through personality assessment, and connect with peers, students, staff and faculty in healthcare. The AOPA Foundation and the You Can Fly High School Aviation Initiative are offering Flight Training Scholarships-Twenty $5,000 scholarships will be awarded to students ages 15 and up who are passionate about earning their primary pilot certificate. See Mrs. Schannuth in the guidance office.
